-Gus del Rio, Owner / Winemaker
The Anakie Vineyard is located in the Moorabool Valley on the foothills of an extinct volcano. The site is rich in red volcanic soils with an enriched limestone base. The cool climate offers itself to create an elegant and refined wine while having a unique ruggedness reflective of its ancient past.
Winemaking to us is about connecting into the land and treating the vines and wine with the respect it deserves. We adopt only handcrafted processes, wild yeast and the most refined French oak barrels as we see this as the only adequate way to express what we have.
The journey at del Rios' started with Gus and Esther in 1996 with its first commercial vintage in 2000. Every vintage has been rewarding and unique; and we're proud to share that journey through our wines.
The wine region is home to a few elite wineries and its mediterranean-esque climate is known for the quality and complexity its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir delivers. The soil is derived from a red volcanic rock with an ancient limestone base.
